Which is more energy efficient as far as heating your home goes?

Is it better to turn your heater on and then when it gets to the temperature you want, turn it off, and then turn it back on when it gets cold in your house again, or is it better to just keep it at one temperature throughout the day?
My husband and I are in our first home (we were in apartments before, so we’re kind of new to this), and I wanted to know which would save us the most money? I was thinking about turning the heater off at night and then turning it on during the day, but I didn’t know if that would save money or not?

The thermostat is made so that you don’t have to keep turning the while unit on and off all the time. Depending on what type of heater you have, turning it off completely may not be the best option, as it will have to use a lot of energy to heat the house up if it gets really cold and the heater has to make up a large temperature difference. Usually, the best thing to do it set it and the desired temperature and turn it back 3-5 degrees when you go to bed or when you leave the house for more than a couple of hours. Of course, if you have an unseasonably warm day, you can certainly turn the heater off or set the thermostat really low so that it doesn’t turn on.
